Afenifere Group, a Yoruba socio-cultural organization based in the United Kingdom and Europe, has questioned President Muhammadu Buhari’s governance system, claiming that Nigeria is on the edge of collapse.
Afenifere stated the Buhari government skewed major appointments, heads, and agencies to the North, while the only nice item he had for the Southern area was the Cattle Ranch, according to the group’s Secretary, Anthony Ajayi (RUGA).
After the Police College in Kano, the Defence Academy in Kaduna, the War College in Abuja, the Army University in Borno, the Navy University in Kano, the Army Staff College in Jaji (Kaduna), and the Transport University in Daura (Katsina), the group wondered how Buhari approved Air Force University in Bauchi.
According to Afenifere,
“The recurrence of high-profile crimes within the polity, as well as the insufficient reaction by the national security apparatus, has sparked the need to decentralize the Nigerian police and other security institutions.
The hub around which the family, community, local government area, state, and federation evolve and rotate as different-sized security circles.
“Security problems are organized into circles, and players inside each circle are better able to focus on and manage the security challenge that exists within that circle. As a result, it emphasized the importance of decentralizing the police and other state-owned internal security management agencies in order to combat the rise in crime and violence, including that perpetrated by armed robbers, political assassins, ransom kidnappers, and Islamic insurgents, among others.”
However, it was questioned whether the majority of Nigerians in Europe could demonstrate a multi-ethnic state in which one ethnic group is positioned to dominate the others.
“For those who are unaware, ethnic groups in Nigeria are referred to as nations in Europe. There is no place on the planet where a white guy accepts perpetual dominance from another white man.
Buhari and Tinubu
“In Nigeria, there are those who argue that a decrepit, structurally defective, and crisis-prone artificial contraption ruled by the North doesn’t have an agenda.
“How could you explain President Buhari appointing 81 of his 100 appointees as Northerners? Since becoming President of Nigeria, Buhari has made appointments in the North-East, North-West, and North-Central regions.
“As of April 2021, the paramilitary and anti-graft agencies, based on their state of origin, revealed that 12 of the 16 (75%) are from the Northern portion of the country, while only four (25%) are from the Southern half.
Defense, Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Police Force, Department of State Security (DSS), National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Nigeria Correctional Service, Nigeria Immigration Service, and Nigeria Customs Service are among the agencies involved.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), the Federal Fire Service, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC), and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency are among the others (NDLEA).
“Also, Buhari’s confirmation of the list of Justices of the Court of Appeal announced in 2021 reveals astonishing inequity, with 61% of jurists from the North and 39% from the South.
“The judicial appointment also brought the subject of the President’s partiality for Northerners in crucial government positions to the fore once more.
“Why the sectionalism, myopia, ethnic imperialism, nepotism, division, hate, and treasonous advocacy of interests antagonistic to Nigeria’s peace and security if there is no agenda to invade other regions of Nigeria and make them slaves?”
